Assessing and Mitigating Risks of Noncompliance with the CARES Act

The Federal Government, through adoption of the CARES Act, aimed to provide financial relief to the country by devoting resources to COVID-19 relief. Appropriated funds flow from federal agencies to state and local governments as well as to beneficiaries through both new and pre-existing programs. During this session, we will discuss some of the higher compliance and fraud risk areas as well as strategies to mitigate and manage the risks prior to their being realized.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify and assess risks of noncompliance and fraud pertaining to funds received under the CARES Act.
- Discuss mechanisms to account for CARES Act Funding.
- Summarize risk mitigation and internal control techniques to address identified risks of fraud and noncompliance.
